{"id":69,"date":"2009-11-30T05:51:32","date_gmt":"2009-11-29T22:51:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/foliodeux.com\/wordpress\/?p=69"},"modified":"2009-12-24T04:33:27","modified_gmt":"2009-12-23T21:33:27","slug":"non-fiction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/foliodeux.com\/wordpress\/?p=69","title":{"rendered":"Non-Fiction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">FD was talking to a friend yesterday, who said, &#8220;you really should read \u00a0<em>The Men Who Stare at Goats.<\/em> It&#8217;s hilarious, and also scary\/horrible.&#8221; \u00a0Well, maybe I&#8217;ll see the movie (after all, it does feature George Clooney) , said FD, but it doesn&#8217;t sound like my kind of non-fiction.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">True. \u00a0FD does not want to become more unhappy about the weirdness of real life. \u00a0FD doesn&#8217;t want to read more about the imperfections and craziness of the US military mind. \u00a0Similarly, FD doesn&#8217;t want to read Elizabeth Kolbert on climate change. \u00a0FD doesn&#8217;t understand how it that most US citizens don&#8217;t seem willing to do anything to reduce climate change. \u00a0FD doesn&#8217;t have children (or much affection for the young, really), and thus has less reason than most to worry about the world turning into something out of <em>The Road <\/em>(that&#8217;s fiction, but also something FD isn&#8217;t going to read). \u00a0But FD still manages to turn out lights, eat almost no meat, and keep the furnace below 70 degrees&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Anyway, in terms of non-fiction, FD is more likely to read <em>Potato: A History of the Propitious Esculent<\/em> (by the felicitously named John Reader), and did, while enjoying &#8220;Buy Nothing Day&#8221; (having purchased the book weeks earlier!)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FD was talking to a friend yesterday, who said, &#8220;you really should read \u00a0The Men Who Stare at Goats.
