{"id":170,"date":"2010-02-22T08:23:00","date_gmt":"2010-02-22T20:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/foliodeux.com\/wordpress\/?p=170"},"modified":"2010-02-22T08:27:48","modified_gmt":"2010-02-22T20:27:48","slug":"national-poetry-month-april-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/foliodeux.com\/wordpress\/?p=170","title":{"rendered":"National Poetry Month, April 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Mr. FD received a copy of the Academy of American Poets poster for National Poetry Month. \u00a0It&#8217;s pretty awful. \u00a0The color is fine &#8212; lots of our favorite blue &#8212; but the overall design is extremely busy and generally not appealing. \u00a0See for yourself,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.poets.org\/page.php\/prmID\/98\" target=\"_blank\"> here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The poster includes a quotation from one of FD&#8217;s favorite poets, Wallace Stevens (for information on WS one good site is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stevenspoetry.org\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Friends and Enemies of Wallace Stevens<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We make a dwelling in the evening air, \/ In which being there together is enough<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">(Sorry about not printing that in a better format &#8212; FD has not totally mastered the wordpress coding system). \u00a0Anyway, these lines are from the poem, &#8220;Final Soliloquy of the Interior Paramour,&#8221; and FD&#8217;s view is that they are just not wonderful enough for a poster that&#8217;s supposed to invite everyone to celebrate poetry. \u00a0And Stevens, deathless as some of his poetry may be (&#8220;Thirteen Ways of Looking at \u00a0a Blackbird,&#8221; for example) is an old, dead, white, male. \u00a0Is that the face of poetry that the Academy wants to put forward?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mr. FD received a copy of the Academy of American Poets poster for National Poetry Month. \u00a0It&#8217;s pretty awful. \u00a0The color is fine &#8212; lots of our favorite blue &#8212; but the overall design is extremely busy and generally not appealing. \u00a0See for yourself, here.
